But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and don’t try to stop them! People who are like these children belong to God’s kingdom.” - Matthew 19:14 (CEV)
Then he said: "I promise you this. If you don’t change and become like a child, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven. But if you are as humble as this child, you are the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." - Matthew 18: 3-4 (CEV)
Many of us have heard, "The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow." But Jesus sees children and youth as an integral part of the church. Children can teach us to be honest with ourselves, to trust, to live life fully, to live today, with no worry of tomorrow. These are the qualities that Jesus saw in the children who were brought to Him. And these are qualities we see and affirm at Living Hope.
In all of our children and youth programming, we encourage children to use their curiosity, energy, imagination, and love of learning to grow in their understanding of God, explore what it means to follow Jesus, and to learn how to love their neighbor.
Every week we work on a memory verse and include a full body activity as a way to connect the visual/verbal/auditory (reading, speaking, hearing) to the kinesthetic (moving). Children are encouraged to ask questions about anything they do not understand. As adults, we like to be involved in activities that interest us and use our skills and knowledge. In the same way, we bring as much of what children are regularly involved in into our time of learning about Jesus and the Bible. In so doing, it is much more likely that children will then take what they learn at church and apply it to what they do in school, and how they live at home. We also encourage our children to be involved in worship, stewardship, missions and how to incorporate Bible reading and prayer into their daily lives.
